Default Differential yoke clips

I read an article that gave instructions on rebuilding the rearend on a vette. The article said something like, remove the rearend cover, and if the yoke clips were the, remove them.

That said:
As I was installing my rear mono-spring, my drivers side yoke was pulled out about a half inch as I jacked the car up (I thought I heard a spring sound from the housing).

There is a question here somewhere.
Is it normal for these "C" clips to come off of the yokes?
Do I need to tear it back down to check and replace if necessary?

Thanks for the help

Yes - the ends of the yokes wear down to the clip groove allowing hte clips to come loose. If you consider this normal :skep:

"Do I need to tear it back down to check and replace if necessary?"

If you think you heard the spring nois then probably. If you can remove the halfshaft from the yoke and see if the yoke will pull out - that will tell you without having to open it.
