I have read through as many threads as I can find but didn’t get a good consensus. What do you think is the best for cleaning are engines and under carriages
I have used Simple Green with good results but quit when I read it has been banned by the aviation industry for causing corrosion-which Im not sure of the mechanism.
I think Ill switch to something else like Castrol Purple or another engine degreaser.

Re: Best cleaner / degreaser (jac1502)
I have used "Greased Lighting" for years with good results. It is cheap and works. It is aggressive on dirt and can damage paint finishes so beware. I would like to try Castrol Purple to compare.

I've used kerosene to clean parts as well as motors. It DOES leave a light oil film and IS flammable, but so are other solvents. Kerosene is cheap and cuts through grease and crud when used with an air compressor and a spray gun.
NOT a paint sprayer...the type of sprayer that has a vacuum line attached on it that siphons the fluid up as you spray.

:iagree: and if mixed with a degreaser concentrate, nothing beats it...the concentrate can be purchased at NAPA or any other automotive retailer.
Maybe the Simple Green was used on Aluminum? I have a 55 galon drum of Crystal Simple Green. You can only use it on aluminum for a short time, the max cycle tiem for immersing it is 10 minutes. It doesn't have any rust inhibitors in it either so your metal parts will rust quickly if you don't oil them. It works good with heated water to about 120-130*F.

I use Castrol Super Cleaner for everything, even around the house. The great thing isyou can cut it with water to get the right cleaning power from heavy grease to light dirt. It also does not take the shine off of painted parts.
I really like Simple Green, but for the money, AutoZone's Coastal Purple cleaner can't really be beat. It works as well as Simple Green, but only costs about $2.50 a gallon.
I really like the Castrol Purple. It will really dry your hands out if you don't use gloves though. I have not found anything that works quite as well.
The Castrol purple stuff is GREAT. I have learned that it easily removes
Koolaid stains from scratched formica countertops. That said, it can clean most anything.
IF you have caked on grease/crud/dirt build up on like an old part....dunk it into 3-5 gallons of gasoline,..the BEST degreaser ever....use an old cut off paint brush for cleaning.....maybe use an old oil drain pan .. if you need do the frame, just scrape clean as you can, and then bless with paintbrush and gasoline.....
for light duty small areas without lotsa crud....carb cleaner, the cheap stuff from Wally world....or AZ....
gasoline will not cut into most painted surfaces.....not the good paints anyway...but spray can paint will not stand up.....
take the old gas/oil and put around foundation of your home for termite protection....
t....dunk it into 3-5 gallons of gasoline,..the BEST degreaser ever....

Gene,,can you say KABOOOOOOOOOOOOM? And then find yourself landing in Wally World or in AZ?
HA! My thoughts exactly! I agree that gasoline is a great solvent. But the VAPORS are what explode with that crap, and scraping it with any kind of metal is really tempting fate. BTW...1 gallon of gasoline = 14 sticks of dynamite when it explodes.
