Hi Gang, first post. I was originally hoping to be able to post pictures of my 1980 and introduce myslelf. However, that would be too easy. I just replaced my intake manifold gasket and found myself with an internal coolant leak. I beleive I have finally seated the intake manifold so as to it no longer leaks however, I am afraid of what the engine oil looks like now. The dipstick has a milky, oil and coolant mixture. What is recommended to clean this besides tearing into the motor? Can I simply replace oil and filter, and hope for the best? thanks!
You might want to check with someone like NAPA to see if they can give you some recommendations. I would think there has to be something to flush through the engine to remove water/coolent. If not I'd plan on buying enough oil(filters) to do two oil changes. Change the oil.... run it 5 minutes or so.... and then change it again.
Let the engine cool the oil will float on the water , drain oil and change filter. Run engine until it gets to max operating temp. drain oil and change filter while engine is hot so all oil will flow out . run engine to operating temp and let cool check oil for discoloration. If its not cloudy you have solved your problem
:iagree:
Totally with all the oil changing action.
They do have a process to run a cleaner through the oil system while the engines on and its like hooked up to life support. But I really dont know what it costs or if you wanna be doing it. Plus I've only seen it advertised for newer cars by the dealers and am unsure who really does it.
Now you us all some pictures... The naughty kind with the hood up and top down!
I just ran into this yesterday at work(Napa), A guys wife dumped in a gallon of antifreeze and a gallon of water in the oil hole and drove it about 10 minutes. I talked to a garage and they said change the oil and filter at least 3 times, running the motor about 15 seconds each time, then hope for the best.
Good luck
the (can't spell) ethyline glycall in the anti-frez attacks the babet in the bearings they start to get pits in them oil changes , run at operating temp,
drain do again NO LOAD the temp helps get the moisture out
I am going to try some BG oil engine flush a few times with some basic oil and filter. Once I see less of the milky stuff I will relube with a premium oil and filter. I will repost.
