MY '87 vette was the worst most unreliable car I ever owned....2 grand in parts alone in 3 years....never again....that did not include the engine and tranny the dealer ate....forget about it....
the car did have attributes though....DPFI and 24 mpg was about the extent of it though....

Sorry to hear that, maybe if you had a '96 you wouldn't be so hard on 'em. There's no comparison between years though. One's not better than the other. I wouldn't trade my C4 for a C3, and I wouldn't trade my C3 for a C4....they're just different that's all.
comon, Gene!...you don't spend 2K in 3yrs on your C3? ;)
Well, good news guys.
The wife says if I can transfer the lease on the Honda...I can get a C4!!
woohoo!
keep your fingers crossed....
:hurray: :hurray:
If you're looking at C4's go with the newest you can afford. I just sold my '87 because I lost interest in trying to "fix" her back up to restored condition. I'd rather spend the money on the C3...
If you found a nice '95 with 50K miles on it, you would be doing well.

Do it before she changes her mind! Or will it be hers?
I like the C-4 verts, but not the coupes. My best friend in New Orleans had a '93 dark green vert with tan top/interior that was really nice. He also had a '69 Monacco Orange coupe too by the way. And then again... I don't like the C-5 verts. Everyone to their own as was stated already.
I recommend you hold off six months and then you'll be able to find an older C5 in the 15K price range, after the C6 arrives. If you ever drive a C5, you'll never settle for a C4; there just isn't any comparison!!! I just bought a 2002 Z06 for $28,000 so I know the prices are dropping some!! Just my two cents worth!!
NO, not for repairs I don't.....that 2 grand was for replacement parts....
partial list....
master cyl.....
rotors.....
calipers......
rack...2x...tons of fun....
water pump
air pump
p/s pump on account of first rack....
seat air pumps...2x each one....
antenna...
fuel pump....
MAF and relays.....
seat covers and convertible top...not really reliability issue, but didn't last all that long...
weatherstripping....leaked a LOT...meaning just silly amount of water,
never even got to the windows and headlights yet, much less the dealer eating the tranny fluid change...burning up...and the
intake manifold leaking water into the sump.....
not only that but the paint sucked....flat out....damn clearcoat peeling, and where it was not peeling, had turned yellow, making that burgundy red the car was supposed to be look all brown, and a crappy shade at that....
usual bumper rubber irregularitites....in front mostly...
there were some other repairs too...but it's been about 8 years now...so I forget....
BTW, car only had ~65 showing and 85 k when I sold it....tires oly lasted 20 k miles and I decided not to put tires on it....800 bux worth of money wasted....
NOW on the present car, since the thing was brought up to par, repairs are minimul, and not bad for a near 8 year old project street driven daily...
sure the tops needs replaced, just did the seats, and dash....
but in fact all my expenses, which are not many....the most recent major deal was allmost 3 years ago...and was the rack/pinion install, and the major rewiring of the entire car....that cost me about 5 months off the road, and about 400 bux or so.....most spent except for engine tranny.....
which nothing was rong with the old L48 and 4 speed, I wanted a roller engine and overdrive....not the car's fault....

dont want one. like the c4s looks better and thats my main love with vettes. (dont fret though, cuz a) i dont have the money for anything right now, and b) i will eventually own a c5 (and a 4 and 2 and 1 :D)
Now if this don't beat all...
when I was about 24, I had my dream C4...perfect condition '95 6 spd, yellow...and I had to go and sell it. Ya know why?...I loved the thing too damn much! Really. I wouldn't go anywhere, I was so afraid something would happen to it!
:nopity
Oh well...now that I've got permission from the wife on the Honda lease...
If ya'll know anybody who wants a 2003 Honda S2000, yellow
lemme know...payment is $500 a month and I've got about two years left...better than showroom condition (as you might imagine from a vette fanatic!)
I like the c3 body style more than the c4. Alot of people around here say the c4 reminds them of 'Knight Rider'.
Well, they (the C4 and KITT) do look a lot more alike than earlier gen Vettes and T/As compared. I know plenty of people that couldn't tell the two apart, except from the tail lights perhaps (they would mistake a C4 for Michael Knight's wheels).
Both are boxy yet sexy 80s cars that look best in black ;)
(I dunno, maybe growing up watching Knight Rider messed me up too, as I do have occasional daydreams of a C4. Not that it can hold a candle to C3s with regards to looks.)
I think about them time and again. Used to have a white/red '92 vert six speed - very fun car to drive, and the wife loved it too. But it rarely got driven, and someone offered me more than I had in it (after 12 mos of ownership) - so it sold quickly. :D
