Door lock horror story....
I took my new 70 to work for the first time yesterday. Dumb butt that I am, I locked it up tight without trying the locks. Guess what? They don't work! So I am totally screwed. What am I to do? Call AAA and have them *&%$ up the door rubber with a slim jim, just to find out they can't get it open anyway? My T-top rubber is shabby; I decide to go at it with a coat hanger. A frustrating hour later I realize I can't budge the interior lock ****. PLAN B: I get to work on the rear window latches. Those suckers lock tight! A half hour later, I manage to open the left one. By this time, I've got a frickin' audience offering advice and snickering under their breath. It takes me another hour to pop the right one. Believe me when I say that I am in a foul mood as I wiggle my butt through the back window. Try THAT at home without a audience, now openly laughing their asses off. I either need to fix my locks or carry a hammer.
My wife did the very same thing the first time she drove mine. Had to call the locksmith. The second time she went out, the car vapor locked. The third time out, she ran out of gas. Guess that's why my wife affectionately has nick-named my care the B$tch. Must be a woman thang.
When I 1st got my 79 I locked the doors with my only key in it. Had to call a lock smith. I had another key made the next day. So don't feel so bad. :conehead
Don't feel bad the door handle/lock setup is crap- always was. Learn how to remove, clean, and adjust it then you'll be ok. Do it every year or two depending on how you use the car.
