I currently have my condensor and evaporative cooler removed for 'lightening' the car. I was wondering if anyone has removed the box on the firewall.. if so what did you remove to do it.. I cant reach all of the screws without hiring a contortionist :smash:
Anyone got pictures to guide me through this
When I replaced my a/c with an aftermarket I tore out all of the old stuff. I had to remove the pass side dash panal to gain access to all the bolts & cables. It wasn't to bad. You will end up with a wide hole in your firewall to warm up your car real fast though when its removed.
Just did this to my '75 and one thing I do know is that on my car at least, I had to remove my right side exhaust manifold. Just could'nt get that big A/C box out(that VIR valve also was still attached). I'm changing it over to a non-A/C car, which is the way I like my cars.
There are a few bolts hiding around there that are tough to find...
Have to get about half of them from the inside, as mentioned already.
When I removed mine I made an aluminum block off plate, bolted it on using four of the existing holes, and sealed it from the inside with caulk. Works like a charm and looks pretty nice, too.
Just take your time on the bolts, and yes, being a contortionist helps.
