Default Paint question

Within the next year I want to paint my car, just wondering how much anybody has paid and what they felt about the paint job. Same color or a color change? And if anybody knows a good paint shop within 300 miles of houston. I dont think I would go much further than that unless there was a great deal. Thanks!

You might also search the Forum archives for additional information. Also take a look at the paint discussions at the FAQ site:
http://www.corvettefaq.com/listing.asp?group=5

You need to specify how you intend to use the car. A perfect show car paint job will likely cost well over $10,000, while a backyard daily driver paint job might cost $500.

Much of the quality (and expense) of the finished product is determined by the preparation effort. You might consider doing some of the prep work yourself as a way to reduce the cost. Some painters see "Corvette" and the price goes up so take that into consideration.

I would go to local car shows and start asking questions when you see a paint job you like. The owners may give you some help as to who to use and who to avoid. :)

Well if you are handy (and if you own a C3 you had better be or you will be paying out the azz!) You can do alot of the prep work yourself. Also you did not specify what type of job you want. Do you WANT a color change? If not then it shouldn't be too bad.

You can always work out a deal with alot of shops to do most of the prep yourself and that is where you will get alot of your money saved. The sanding, taping off, and removal of trim is where most of the money is in prepping a body for paint. but remember, unless you do it on their property you will have to have the car towed to their shop once you are done removing and taping everything off :) Cops don't like seeing a car with no lights and tape all over the car going down the road :lolg:

I just had my 69 convertible repainted at Richey Collision, 12221 Veterans Memorial, Houston, phone 281-893-6341. They do all of my paint and body work. I have had them work on four Corvettes. The majority of their work is performed on Corvettes. You can probably get work done cheaper somewhere else, but you won't get it done better.
