Hey I bought the 68 and have no clue what kind of cam is in the car. i know this. The intake is a single plane torker so it probably is a high lift cam for high RPM which is why it is rough at idle and lacking oomph at low RPM but nail it and once it gets past 2100 RPM it pulls like a raped ape. Carb is an Elbebrock unit and heads are stock L-79 matching #'s units. How can I determine what the specs are?? can I measure the lift at the valve train and get a ballpark on lift/ duration. It feels to be a RPM or 280 series. Anyway to find out aside from the obvious, i.e. pull the cam and measure it. Don't get me wrong I do not want to change a thing. After timing/ carb work with LARS' help it runs straigh bad butt (impressive for a SB) but enquiring minds want to know what the cam specs are.
Hay Dave, I found it. The article about the distributor position and the gear on the bottom. It's in 'Corvette Enthusiast' August 2003, Page 68 and it's written by John Hinckley. If you need, I'll get it copied and either email or snail mail it to you. Whatever you want!
get a dial indicator and degree wheel. measure your lift on the pushrod side of the rocker and note the degrees. pretty simple, but takes time. this way you can see at what degree a suspected cam was installed as well. this is all dependant that the timing marks on the damper are correct for figuring TDC. it should give you an idea anyway. have fun, Brian
