When I removed the front clip on my 71, I used a very stiff 1.5 in. putty knife, and worked it inbetween the fender and bonding surfaces while lightly tapping it with a hammer.

I found a cross betweena putty knife and chisel. You can find them next to the putty knifes. They are thinner and stiffer with a chisel like edge. This worked real well.

Once you get the seam split started, it will go pretty quick. Just try not to punch the knife through the panel or delaminate the panel.

I used a combination of small screw drivers, flat type, and a small scraper. Dont forget that the front clip is bonded in two different locations, and that you will also need to do the area on the inside of the engine bay.
