Default Edelbrock Cams?

Has anyone ever tried the Edelbrock cams?

When and if I ever install a Performer RPM intake and Demon carburetor, I had thought about installing the matching RPM camshaft.

My concern is that since my compression is a little lower than I had wanted, maybe 9.0 or less, would going with the RPM camshaft actually hurt my performance? Edelbrock recommends 9.5:1 compression for the RPM package. Here are the specs on the RPM camshaft
http://edelbrock.com/automotive/cams_chevy.html#rpm

Here is the cam I am currently running:

Here is the rest of my setup:

355 - 300hp?, 340lb-ft
9.0 compression, balanced
67cc Pro Torker heads, 2.02/1.60 valves, ported
Crane Power Max Cam,.454/.480 lift, 272/284 duration
Cloyes Double Roller Timing Chain
Melling Hi-Volume Oil Pump
Edelbrock Performer intake, modified
B&M Holeshot 2000
TH350, 3.70, P255 60R15
Dynomax 1-5/8 Headers

What I hope to get out of this engine is about 350hp. At the moment, I estimate I'm just under 300hp. Any other suggestions for reaching my goal without breaking the bank? I do plan to add a crossover and flowmasters, as well as a nice ignition later.

Thanks! :seeya

Many years ago i patterned my 355ci rebuild after a Car Craft article using the Crane Power max 272 cam. Their dyno build was just under the 400 hp mark. They used 9.5 compression with 1.6 roller tip rockers and at the time they didn't have that wide choice of intakes so they used a Weiand Excelarator. Which is the small single plane up to 6500 rpm. They used a 650 cfm carb. The heads were S/R torquors with 2.02/1.60

I ran @ 10.7 compression and a edelbrock 750 with everything else nearly identicle parts as the article. I was able to run consistant 12.80's in bracket racing.

If I was you I would get a better intake manifold. Block off the exhaust cross over if you have it. and install 1.6 rockers of some type

Why do you think your compression is < 9.0 ? You can raise it by milling the heads to 64cc if they are indeed 67cc now, and you can go with a slightly thinner gasket which will bump up the compression also.

I have the Edel RPM on my 355 & it sounds great at idle. The power isn't so hot at low rpms, but it kicks in strong at about 3000 rpms. The thing to be sure & check is psiton to valve clearance whenever you rasie the cam lift ;) .

I've been happy with the RPM cam, but I wouldn't mind trying something with a tad less duration for greater torque down lower. While autocrossing my car, I can really feel when the powerband does hit because I start to spin the tires while going around the course :)

You are setup for what you want- 350+HP now.

One needs a cam that matches the whole setup. An Edelbrock cam would be fine if it matches the setup.
If you consider that Chevy has made various cars w/ various SBs, various weights w/ 3-6 spd. manuals, 2-4 spd. autos., & various rear gears, tire sizes, etc., then it should come as no surprise that 3 cams cannot match all.

The SB RPM (283-400 CI !!!) cam would be good in 350 setups w/ high stall like 3000, 4 spd., gears in the 4s, etc.

Your Crane cam is a much better match for your setup & what you want- 350+HP now. Go ahead w/ the crossover & low restriction mufflers. Get timing, etc., right. You can add the intake & 600-650 carb., 1.6, etc.
