Default Snapped off 3 spark plug towers

When changin spark plugs today. First time in 130,000 miles of driving I have snapped any towers. ACDelco. Anyway, came out OK with base still intact.

Installed NGK Iridiums - UR4IX is the equivalent to R45TS if anyone interested.

It has nothing to do with how tight they're in. If you put any LATERAL(sideways)FORCE on them with your ratchet and extension, you can snap any plug no matter what the brand.

Yup! That's why I ONLY use a spark plug socket and a 3/4" wrench to install/remove plugs. No ratchet for me. I've had no such problems with that combo. Seems that the ratchet never fits in quite right and is always subjected to some sideloading from something.

Put anti-sieze on all plugs.

It is the lateral force. And, no beers or anything during the change. Must not be paying enough attention.

That is normally the method I use. I also have a colapsable spark plug socket from Eastwood for the hard to get plugs.

Some of those plugs are in real tight areas, e.g. #2 and #3, especially with A/C. I usually snap one off, too, even with a spark plug socket. Joe
