when someone asks what mods i have before they are going to race me....
is it fair to say just bolt ons since my engine is a crate and therefore bolted in. :lolg: :lolg:
"Do you ever ask a lady whats under her skirt before you take her on a date."
But as far as bolt in, I see where your coming from... hehe... keep em guessin'. I would tend to ask after a race as that seems more the proper etiquette, but only if you won! (spook the secret stealer - I didn't make the corvette... I made the corvette better)
I would say bolt-on's, if anything. A crate motor is just another small block chevy, just put together by someone else. You could install the same parts yourself. If they are asking before a race, they are looking for an advantage. The blue bottle is what they are really looking for. Joe
I always tell 'em it's a stock 427/390 with a cam and intake and headers!
Seriously to me, it really doesn't matter since I got past my serious late night street racing days. It used to be part of the game when you're playing for money.
But these days I just race for fun and bragging rights, so I've been accused of telling way too much about the combo. No big deal...if you beat me, maybe you'll tell me what's in yours so I can rethink mine!
By the time second gear comes along, both parties have a pretty good idea what they other guy is running!
If you win it don't matter what he's running. If you don't ,it don't matter what you're running...it ain't enough!
An experienced street racer/canyon runner should be able to look your car over very quickly and identify what limits your performance (tire size, header tube diameter, size of carb, basic suspension, intake manifold etc..) They could have that optimum tuned everything matches and is married perfectly setup that screams down the road so you have to factor that in. YOu should only challenge cars that you have a knowledge of so an educated prediction can be assessed as to whether you will lose or take the money home.
It is not unacceptable to just saw "take a look for yourself to the other fellow" at my car, I will even open the hood for them because most of them wouldn't know one set of heads from another.. The only exception of these recent years is it should be a gentleman's courtesy to identify as to whether you or they have NOS. Most won't say so you have to factor this in also, you should be able to spot the plumbing if you can't find the bottle. ETc.
tellem' your not sure, that your boy,brother-inlaw,(lie) had your credit card
and was messin' around with it, but it seams to run OK :bs :reddevil
