I'm about to look and see if I have tank sticker on my 72. Never looked
for one before. Should it be on the top passenger side, or could it be anywhere. I'd like to not have to pull the tank completely out, but just lower
it enough to look. If one is there, any thoughts on what to do -- remove it, or photograph it and leave it there ?
Thanks
Is it a PITA to remove the boot? Will it rip?...I've pulled it aside to look for my sticker and cannot see anything. I heard people say that the sticker may still be there, it's just that I can't see it because it's dusty...I'm on the verge of dropping my tank, but was wondering if removing the boot will help me see it...even if it is real dusty?
The boot is fairly easy to remove. Depending where and if the sticker is on the tank, you may be able to see it. I was able to see and remove the sticker off my 70 through the top of the tank with the boot removed. It was on the driver side.
I found mine on the 71 convertible I had last year, I pulled the boot to the side and used a flashlight to look on top of the tank, mine was only a partial piece but it did show enough info to validate the car, my daughter had to reach her hand in to pull it off, you need small hands to fit under there, mine was on the drivers side.
I pulled my boot out, got a 1/2" tear in it up top while pulling it out...Still can't see anything...I think I do see some remnants of glue on the pass side...maybe a piece of a sticker...but not sure. I know theres a 99% that its not there, but I will probably still drop the tank to be 100%. So is it easy dropping the tank? Am I going to open up a whole can a of worms to do this?
