Speackers for my 81
I am thinking of replacing the stock speackers in my 81. My question is what size speakers fit as replacements with out major modifications? Also how do I remove the front speakers on the top of the dash? any help would be great. thanks!

4x6 speakers in the dash. You need a 7mm hex head socket that is as low as you can find. Getting in there under the angle of the widshield is not a hell of a lot of fun. The hex head screw are recessed down in the dash a bit making it even more difficult. I did mine with an extension and a universal on the 7mm socket. I would recommend putting some bass blockers on your front speakers as well. A 4x6 doesn't handle tons of volume with low end going. I ended up putting a little powered sub in the back of mine to help out the 6x9 speakers back there and still had room to store the t-tops. It is not a big "ricer" sub, just something to give the tunes a bit of punch, not license plate rattling.

Not sure if your '81 is like my '80, but make sure you get shallow enough 4x6's. I had to return my first set of 4x6's becase they bottomed out too soon :rolleyes:
