Default Oil pressure sensor on 400

There is no hole for an oil pressure sensor on my new 400, do I just measure the location, drill and tap a hole? or is there something else I should know about.

Are you talking about the location near the oil filter? Yes, you could drill and tap there if you wanted to. Hope you haven't tanked your block already because you'll have to do it again.

Yes, it is above the oil filter.

I am a little concerned about drilling a hole in my block

I bought the engine already built, and I don't think I can get it tanked. That makes sense though, I don't want those little filings killing my engine.

Why didn't the block come with a sensor hole?

I didn't know there was one there, I will have a look.

It would make much more sense to use that one. :yesnod:

Yeah, the back part of my brain says some blocks were not tapped and threaded for the engine to frame connection to run the clutch. I think, so says the back of my brain, that you can drill and tap if you know the right place. The front of my brain says why not go to a hydraulic clutch and throwout bearing ?

I have heard of people welding a nut to the block to screw the pivot ball into.

Why didn't the block come with a sensor hole?
Because 400 blocks are strange. Some of them have them in the oil filter location. Some don't. Some of them are drilled and tapped for PS brackets. Some aren't. Some have three freeze plugs. Some have two freeze plugs and a boss cast into the block where a third one would go. Some have only two freeze plugs and no boss. Some are drilled and tapped for straight-across starter bolts. Some are drilled and tapped for "diagonal" starter bolts. Some are drilled and tapped so you can use either. It's NUTS, I tell ya.

You can't even go by casting numbers--even they're not drilled and tapped the same way across-the-board.

This is why I really like them.
