I can shift my car through all the gears, but 4th. I was wondering what might cause the car not to shift into 4th gear. The last time I had this problem was when i disconnected the TCS switch to 4th gear. It is now connected and the problem is still there. Do I need this switch on the car or can I remove it and solve my problem. I think it may be the issue, but I am not sure. What else could cause a 4 speed to not shift into 4th gear???
Does anyone have any ideas on this?? I was reading up on the TCS stuff and think that little switch by fourth should have nothing to do with it. Do yall think it is a shift rod in a bind?? The car shifts perfectly up to 3rd, but just will not go into fourth no matter what I try. It almost seems like fourth gear has a lockout or something on it.
I think that switch is mounted into the side cover correct? I don't think it would cause the problem you' re having. I would check for any binding of the rods going into the 4th gear. If there are no obvious outside problems try disconnecting the linkages from the side cover and see if you can engage the tranny with a wrench. You might have a syncro/gear problem or a worn slider inside the tranny.

Thanks! The first thing I plan on looking at now is the linkage. Would a synchro cause this problem? I only thought they dealt with gear grinding issues. What does the slider do? I am still learning about trans info.
You may have already tried this, but if it shifts when you double clutch it is probably synchro related. If you are totally locked out of 4th gear I would be checking for a bent, or seized linkage before taking it to a tranny shop.
:iagree: In my younger days I dropped a speedo driven gear into a Muncie. I figured it would "chew it up" and not cause problems-WRONG! It ate syncros and bent the shift forks inside. Sounds like maybe worn/bent shift forks, worn shifter bushings, or worn side cover.
