Is the only reason that BB's in our vette's run short water pumps is for fan to radiator clearence? Is this what makes the BB brackets for our cars so expensive? If I am running electric fans and eliminating the engine driven fan is it possible to go to a long water pump and cut down on the price of all the pulleys? Are pulley's for long water pumps easier to find than for the short ones? Is this a good idea to switch to a long water pump? I plan on running billet pulleys anyway but just curious.
Re: BB brackets are they different for Vette's (BlackRat)
My donor motor for my 75 was a 69 LS6 454 complete with pulleys and power steering brackets. I too run electric fans and the long water pump. I used this combination for years before switching to the short water pump. It sure cut the cost of pulleys and mounts down.
I also ran the stock 350 rad but had to have the core reversed to stick out more towards the front then the back . I used the 350 motor mounts, and ignition.
Re: BB brackets are they different for Vette's (BlackRat)
We used a long pump on my BB, but it was an accident. My engine guy did not know that vettes with rat motors should have the short pump. I have the twin spal fans and long pump and it works fine, but I dont have much space between the pump and fans. As far as the brackets go, mine came from Paragon corvette parts here in Michgian. They cost me about 180 bucks for the alternator and power steering pump brackets and they will work with either style pump long or short. Go with a Stewart waterpump and you will be happy, good product and very reasonable price. Just my 2 cents worth!
Re: BB brackets are they different for Vette's (467-Ratman)
I also have all the Paragon brackets. When I went to the Rat motor, I didn't want to experiment, I just wanted to put it together. I am running a 4-core radiator with dual Flex-a-lites. This is a pic of the motor prior to bolting everything up. There is a lot of room between the tip of the nose and the motor.:)

How 'bout the aftermarket billet stuff from places like Zoops is there any problems with fittment, price and availability when running a short water pump?
