RE: 82 THAT MY FRIEND JUST PICKED UP. WON'T START. NEW FUEL PUMP, NEW COMPUTER. HE CAN GET THE FUEL PUMP TO RUN BUT CAN NOT GET INJECTORS TO CYCLE. HAS VOLTAGE TO THE INJECTOR COILS. ANY IDEAS?
the injectors have 5V constant voltage, if so the fuses (2 of them) are in tact. The injectors work by grounding (the injector drivers in the ECM do that). Either the ECM is bad or there is no cranking signal. Have you tried pulling any fault codes??
Thanks for the reply. He has installed a new ECM unit in the dist. The 5v ? He tells me with the key on, the coil at the injector will lite up a test lite nice and bright. Fault codes have not been read. If you need the radio to do this, then thats out,(no radio). He was wondering about the chip that goes in the computer. New computers don't come with them, you use the old one in the new unit.
ECM in the dist? That's the EST, the ECM is behind the drivers seat, under the storage box, in front of the battery. To remove it the battery needs to come out.
As for pulling codes, remove the ashtray and the ALDL connector is right under there, jumper the test and ground pinouts and the check engine lamp will start to show the codes. Go to http://www.crossfire.homeip.net and then to the faq & tech articles for info on how to do all this. To properly diagnose the system you will AT LEAST need a multi meter.
Thanks for your help Twin-Turbo. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress. By the way I just read Road racers last post. Boy things can really be different out there.
Http://www.crossfire.webhop.net I'll bet your friend has a corrosion problem somewhere at the ECM unit. Twin Turbo is our resident expert on crossfires. :chevy If there is one thing he knows, it's crossfire engines :yesnod:
If the Oil pressure sensor is bad, this will also stop the injectors from firing.
Teh Crossfire injection fault is THE place to go for info.
Also you should get an 82 GM Corvette shop manual for help in troubleshooting. You might find one on Ebay for cheap.
Brent...
If the oil pressure sender was bad the pump wouldn't be running, it's a switch for the relay, not the injectors.
As for hypertech, they are not correct replacements but some kind of performance chip, the performance part is nowhere to be found though. The ONLY neat thing about them is the elimination of the TCC lockup in lower 3 gears.
It almost HAS to be your ECM or there's some kind of corrosion on the connectors indeed, check for continuity in the wiring (ground test from injector connector to the correct pinout on the ECM, the schematics are on the crossfire site)
I don't know if the '82 ECM is like the '81 ECM but one of the fisrt steps it to turn the ignition to "ON" but don't try to start the car. If your Check engine light is not on you have a problem.
