Default Leaking radiator....

Well, it looks like the radiator has a leak. :banghead:

The questions is to have it repaired or get an aluminum replacement?

Any ideas on what a radiator shop charges to give a radiator a once over? Anyone know of a good place in Dallas?

What's my options for Aluminum replacements? Didn't someone say Summit has one? Application is a 1970 350 automatic with AC.

The car is just going to be a fun driver, not necessarily original. I'll keep the old radiator though.

Thanks,

You might want to check in with Tom Dewitt....a forum sponsor. They sell the factory replacement rad as well as a direct fit model. Not sure about '70, but suspect like my '68 that an aluminum rad was the original equipment. I have a brass replacement which is getting rather old....and will probably replace in the spring, before I have a problem with it.

Last copper/brass radiator I had repaired cost $80, last one I had re-cored was $212. I would go with the aluminum one. With proper care it should last another 30 years. DeWitts is a great place to get one. I think he occasionally has a clearance on Ebay too.

I just had my radiator repaired. It cost 70 bux.

When I was talking to the guy he said they can repair them as long as the leaks aren't near the middle. They take the side tanks off clean and reweld it all back together. I have yet to test mine but they guy said "good as new" when he handed it over. For 70 bux its worth a shot at least.
