Re: Opinions on a Blaupunkt Dash "conversion"? (redson)
You don't need that on a '79. It has a plastic bezel that is easily cut, and any modern head unit can fit in there. And that is *zowie* way overpriced for a low-end Blaupunkt unit!
Re: Opinions on a Blaupunkt Dash "conversion"? (redson)

I assumed that this was for the guys that wanted to save their original dash to reinstall later,at some point, undamaged for whatever reason!
Re: Opinions on a Blaupunkt Dash "conversion"? (redson)
I just installed an in dash headunit in my Vette. Its pretty simple to cut out the plastic with a dremel. Just remember you can always cut out more, but you can't put any back in. Good luck. :seeya
Re: Opinions on a Blaupunkt Dash "conversion"? (redson)
If you have regrets later, you can buy a replacement bezel for about 99 bucks. It covers the center cluster gauges and radio.
Some people have also been known to buy a replacement bezel, cut it up and keep the original stored away. A '79 is hardly a rare car, however, so it's fairly pointless...
BTW: DO NOT try to turn what appears to be hex head screws on the bezel -- they're molded plastic! :smash:

Well,I just got a '79 also,as a replacement for the '77 a stupid 17 year old girl decided to hit head-on.But even thought the '79 isnt the greatest Corvette around, some people might not wanna cut it up in case it hurts some resale value.I saw a panel for sale at vettespecialties.com with the opening already in it for $175.
Re: Opinions on a Blaupunkt Dash "conversion"? (redson)
You can get a kit for cutting you current bezel to fit a DIN radio from a place called Vette Specialties. I believe they are the only place that makes these.
Re: Opinions on a Blaupunkt Dash "conversion"? (redson)
Redson, save your money. Cut the bezel for now. Replace the bezel later if you want to go back to stock to resell. But it's gonna be at least another 20 years before it makes a difference in resale value. And by then you won't care.
The bezel changed in '78 (or was it '77?) from a metal one with contours to a flat plastic unit. That's why you often see CD head units in the later-model C3's but not the earlier ones (which need the Vette Specialties bezel).
With regards to the clock ****, I think there's a tiny screw in the middle of the ****. Break out your jeweler's screwdrivers!

Thanks for the info/link on Vette Specialties! :hurray:
I am doing an install of Pioneer CD player in my 68 at this time - took a look at their adapter - just what I needed! This will make for a much more professional looking install.
Re: Opinions on a Blaupunkt Dash "conversion"? (redson)
For a New 68-71 Bezel already modified w/the bezel kit - $229.95

Send in your bezel and have them modify w/bezel kit - $95.00
Order the Bezel Kit and DIY - $55.00
For my $$ I ordered the DIY kit & saved a heck of a lot of $$ Check out the instructions on the website - that should give you an idea of whether you feel like doing it yourself - doesn't appear to difficult

Yep,you didnt list a '79,but I'm sure I saw one the last time I looked.Ya,the DIY kit sounds like it might be the way to go,or just carve mine up & relplace it later if I want.Did the kit require a Dremel or something?
Re: Opinions on a Blaupunkt Dash "conversion"? (redson)
You don't need a kit!!! (That's what I've been trying to tell you.) It takes under an hour to do the swap in '78 and newer C3s! Get out there, cut the cheap plastic bezel with a dremel (you don't even need to remove the bezel) and install something nice... :yesnod:
