Is it possibe to paint the engie without removing it??? maybe take out parts around the engine. If so, what kind of pain/dressing do u guys use? Also... Does anyone offer preformance packages that have heads and cam and intake? Sorry for the lame questions, just getting into this hobby.
I detailed the engine compt in my old '70 Firebird with the motor still in. It was an easy weekend project.
First degrease it as well as you can using gunk foaming cleaner and pressure sprayer at a carwash. Then drive it home and start by removing the fan, pulleys, and the accessories and their brackets. Also remove the distributor, carburetor and fuel line if you want, or mask them off. Then re-wash everything under the hood with hot water and tide laundry detergent. Wire brush all the rust off and wipe everything down with laquer thinner. If you have chrome or cast valve covers remove them and mask along the edges or put junk ones on.
Now mask the fenders windshield and crossmember. Paint the motor orange, trying not to get too much overspray on the exhaust or inner fenders. Let the paint dry overnight. While you are waiting, clean and paint the pulleys and accessory brackets semi-gloss black Also paint the air filter housing the same color.
Next day, wrap the motor in big plastic bags to protect it from overspray. Mask off anything else you want to keep natural color, like the radiator shroud. Now paint everything under the hood with semi-flat black (underhood black or rubber bumper black).
When the paint dries, put everything back together and take pictures :-)

I have seen some of that ex manifold paint but my dad said it starts to look like crap after a little while. Has anyone had any experience with this stuff or another product to recommend?
Go to http://www.jegs.com, they have tested packages on intake and head upgrades. Its easier to order a catalog and thumb through it page by page. Jabo
