I was talking to a friend and he said the rotary in the vette (experiemental) was like 5 liters or something. Seems odd to me that they would have such a large displacement. Does anyone have info on the rotary they used? I think it was a four rotor but not sure.
Thats interesting. I didn't know they made them that big !
But the person who told me about these also said they were weak. 350hp rotary isn't weak by my standards. I used to drive a first gen Rx7 with a 1.2 (12b) and that was weak. 96hp or something like that.
thanks for the link and info. it didn't take long either
Everyone was trying rotories ( actually Wankel engines )in the 70's. Thought they were the next big thing.
The problem is they arn't really rotories, they are more like Ovaleies. the 'rotor' runs in a oval path which causes all kind of sealing and manufacturing problems.
The origional Rotories had rotors that ran in circular paths but they had real world usage problems, like changing the spark plug required disassembly of the engine since it was in the center!
Mazda BTW went rotory in order not to be forced to consolidate into one of the big auto MFG co's during the early 70's. Japan was forcing smaller companies to merge into bigger companies unless they had a unique product. A rotory engine made Mazda unique...
