The dyes work very well if you prepare the surface correctly. You have to clean the vinyl or leather very carefully. I usually use a spray cleaner first like 409. Then follow that up with a rag dampned with lacquer thinner. Don't soak the rag just make it damp. Go over the surface a few times to make sure that all the old wax, silicone, and dirt are cleaned. Once you have the panels clean spray each piece with multiple light coats until you get the coverage you want. Don't try to cover everything in one or two coats because it won't look right. You want light coats so you don't get runs or sags in the paint. Also, don't spray under humid conditions or you'll get blushing in the paint (dye). Other than these tips the dye does a great job. Good luck.
I've also been using "Fusion" paint by Krylon (really!) It's got a "special bond" with plastics and has been coming out surprisingly well. Even though priming isn't necessary (per instructions on can) I've been giving the actual plastic pieces a light coat of etching primer just to be safe, but the center console and the few other vinyl pieces I've done so far have been coming out great w/ the light thinner wipe, as mentioned above.
They have about a dozen or so colors out now and at less than $5 a can...worth a try :yesnod:

Vetttfixr is right!! Your local paint shop ie: NAPA store, has stuff to remove dirt, silicone etc. They also have a primer you wipe on. I know it sounds like trouble, but it's worth it! I "freshened" up my whole interior. I also put insulation (air duct with foil on one side) from home depot down under the carpet. I cleaned the interior and bought some dye from a local paint shop. They have the codes to mix it for your car just like paint. If I knew how to put a picture on here to show you, I would. The dye was $60 for a quart. Did all with some left over for "touch ups". You can by a generic color from NAPA or get the stuff from Corvette America, spray can or quart.
