Who has one? I am redoing my center console and would like to replace my clock with a temp guage that looks like the rest of the guages. Also how did you go about installing one? :chevy
Re: tranny temp guage in clock spot? (Quinn_Seipp)
Beginning in 1981 some optional radios (electronic tuned receivers) contained a digital clock. The clock in the bezel was thus replaced with an oil temp gage as shown in the pic. That was for the engine but I am sure someone has adapted a sensor for transmission heat pickup to drive that gage.
Re: tranny temp guage in clock spot? (Quinn_Seipp)
Added the 81 engine oil temp. gauge a long time ago. It will go right in place of clock. Replaced panel w/ 81 panel so all would be same since clock cutout was round. Have done many posts on it.
Paul67 did some topics when he had the 79 & was considering it.
I never got around to it before I sold the 1979. I sold the parts on EBay.
What I do not know is if the temp range for transmission fluid would fall within the same range as engine oil. If not that gage would be of little use.
Re: tranny temp guage in clock spot? (Quinn_Seipp)
Thanks for the pointers, I was kinda of looking for an aftermarket guage that I could just throw in for now with a bit of custom work that looks and glows similiar to the originals, and hook up once I put my 700r4 tranny in.
Re: tranny temp guage in clock spot? (Quinn_Seipp)
I have one of these in a 69. I had Clocks by Roger rebuild it and put an orange needle. Looks like it belongs there. I don't think aftermarket will look right. My next choice would be a tranny temp gauge from a 1 1/2 ton or bigger GM truck. Same basic cab as the 73-87. Take that gauge and use a clock back. It might be close.

What did you replace with the 81 panel? The black trim? or the blue thing all the guages are connected to? Thanks alot guys, :yesnod:

... and you [those that don't know] want the fluid 30 degrees cooler than H2O. Also, since we are on the subject, don't bypass the radiator "cooling" coil. It's there to warm the fluid while at cruise.
