When I jack up both sides of the rear with the tires off the ground, both rear tires lean in to the point of touching the ends of my spring. When I lower the rear down there is the weight of the car putting pressure from the spring into the sidewall of the cocked tire.
Is there someway when jacking the rear to keep the tires from leaning in so much? The spring moves away from the tire after she starts to roll, but I don't like the idea of metal pressing in the sidewall of the tire and then rubbing until it clears. I have a new steel spring with 8" bolts. I never noticed this before, but after reading MIKER post of the sidewall rip, I was watching my clearances closely. I would guess that everyone that has an 8" or larger bolt may have the same problem.

I've actually been considering making a mounting point on my frame for a chain to hold up the trailing arms when I jack the car up. I have the same problem as you. I was also wondering if a 5 link would solve this problem.

I don't recall ever having seen the spring touch my tires when the rear was raised off the ground.
Obviously, I'll be taking a closer look after I get a new tire mounted.
Actually they are not touching when it is raised. When I start lowering one side at a time the wheel touches the ground at the cocked angle and as I keep lowering, the spring end then touches the tire. After I roll her out of the garage, the wheel straightens up, and then everything is clear.

Try putting 2 pieces of sheet metal with oil in between under the tires before lowering, this should allow the tire to slide out when you lower the car. Make the bottom one larger than the top one and you should not get much oil on you floor.
