Check out Signguy's thread. He installed ones that hook up to the exh manifold.
Hooker also sells smallblock sidemount headers. You'll have to get creative with the rocker panels if you go to non-stock style mufflers. (JCL Spiral Baffles offer the best performance.)

Vette magazine had an article in January 2003 for a 72 going from rear exhaust to side (hooker headers). Feb 03 issue went over rear end filler panel. Not sure if it would workon a 79 - but don't you have to worry about putting in cats to pass smog (and I don't know where cats would fit - never seen any in side pipes, but who knows).
I was thinking of getting AIR equiped headers, buth costs will probably leave me with good ole cast iron...

I hate to burst your bubble, but I don't think you can install functional sidepipes in Kalifornia. :nonod: Emissions regulations and all that.

That probly is true Page but i am moving out of this state in a couple of months and there are no smog standards where I'm going. But if I do but fakes on thanks for keeping it a secret.

Its not like every somg test site in california is on the side of the law lol
im guessing atleast 60% will pass anything for money, a few places around my city were shut down recently due to this.

There probably are place in Kalifornia where you can get the smog guy to look sideways, though its a lot harder than it used to be and stations are closed constantly for this violation. It is also one of the reasons there is the random selection of people who must go to the state run TEST-ONLY stations.
Me - Swap on the legal system a week or so before smog..tune the engine - get smogged - pass with flying colors - go home - 45 minutes later - its RUDEBOY with sidepipes roaring.
