Default redoing interior on my 78

Im new to board and have a couple of questions. Im replacing the carpet and want to know if the plastic trim around the three doors in back come off the doors to replace that carpet also any hints or tips on replacing carpet would be helpful. My 2nd question is about the power window motor,[drivers side] this also has to come out as the window does not go all the way up i can hear the motor running but it gets about 3 inches from top and stops with the motor still running so i quess its the regulator Any tips or tricks to getting that stuff out of the door ? Thanks for any help DRM78

If its like my 80 the outside ring of plastic is part of the door. The area where the carpet is recessed for the carpet. The carpet is glued to the door and you to be very careful when trying to remove it. Pick at a corner and get it started and go from there. Clean the door surface well and spray the carpet back and door with adhesive wait a few and press them together starting from the middle outward.

It sounds like you have a bad window regulator, motor gear or both. Their are repair kits for the regulator but I would just replace it with a new one and replace the motor gear at the same time. removing the assembly is kind of a pain in the azz but it can be done. Support the window(I used two pairs of vice grips with rags wrapped in the jaws) on the edges of the window. Remove the motor and regulator as a unit and be sure you put a bolt through the regulator hole before you remove the motor from the regulator so the spring pressure is maintained If you don't it could be painful.

Good Luck
