As are most C3 owners, I'm on a pretty tight budget, and the cheapest I can find a new dash for our '77 is $349. So I'm considering using the dash cap from Corvette America. They also have a dash skin, but I'm afraid the corners being broken off of my dash would prevent it. Not to mention that I'm not crazy about drilling a thousand holes in it for the speaker.
As an alternative, they have a molded dash cap that I'm considering. I think it's ABS or something. But I'm wondering if any of you have tried it, and if so, what you think of it.

Well there is a dash pad, that is made of the same color as your carpet that you could lay across that dash. I believe it's from Corvette America.
They're crap. You'll never get them to fit regardless how hard you try and you'll end up throwing them into the dump right next to mine.....AND then kicking yourself for wasting the $100 you should have put towards a new dash.

Re: Anyone use the Dash Caps? (Twin_Turbo)
What color are you looking for? Corvette America
has dash pads in Dark Brown, Buckskin and Smoke Gray for $199.
They are NOT QUITE PERFECT, but from what CA says you have
10 days from the time you recieve it to return it if it doesn't meet your
expectations. Go to thier webpage and put these numbers in their search
engine.
Q20420 Buckskin
Q20586 Dark Brown
Q20332 Smoke Gray
I bought a dashcap from CA but hated it. It didnt seem to fit right, lots of trimming... it reminded me of being 16 and keeping my first car together with paper clips and scotch tape. Dont do it... you will want to do it over again, later. Do it right the first time and get a dash. Al kosh is 400$. I put my in and LOVE IT... see my pictures on good Luck http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...=405302&page=1
I am 17and therefore also on a tight budget. I just ordered a dash cap from Corvette America, and am crossing my fingers. The one I ordered comes unpainted for $100. I will paint it with no sand primer and paint from Zip, which I just used for a lot of my interior today. It worked very well, and I'm hoping the dash cap will go just as well.
I put a dash cap on my old 1980.....it looked okay....nothing wanted to fit perfect...like the center gauge bezel and the cluster bezel....You have to cut out the speaker grilles on top yourself and it looks a bit cheesy to someone that knows Corvettes....I bought dye from either Vette Visions or MAD and it turned out nice.....If you are on a very cheap budget do it ....Lot better than having a big nasty crack in your dash.
I installed one on my old 69 convertible. It worked OK but installation required A LOT of patience. Trimming around the defroster vent was the most tedious. Plan on having a heat gun handy. A hair dryer might work but a heat gun is better.
I just bought a dash pad for my 76 and couldn't find anything cheaper then $349.00, but I have heard from people that bought dash caps that they don't work very well. As you know restoration isn't cheap!!!!!!!!!!
