Re: Shop manual comment... (79Fever)
Been saving my pennies and dimes, finally bought the 79 shop manual. The Mrs Saw the amount in the money program... you spent $100 on a book? A BOOK?
I love my wife! :D
The service manual for my Silverado was $400 Canadian at the dealer with a 4 week wait, I bought it from Helm and it cost $200 Candian and was at my door in 5 days.
My wife doesn't mind tooo much cause I've been doing my own repairs for 25 years
The way I look at it is if it cost $200 to get fixed and I can do it for $100 in parts I'm aloud to buy $100 in tools :D
Tell her how much it costs to take it to a mechanic shop and have it fixxed. The money you saved after the first repair you did yourself paid for the book. If you put it that way- like your saving money- who knows you might even get some brownie points :D
Tom, I picked up all my manuals off ebay, usually in the $20 range per book. Sure, they have some greasy fingerprints in them, but they money saved is worth it to me.
I got mine off ebay for 20 bucks brand new in the package. It was a Chilton's (the best manual), and it has been worth its weight in gold in repairs for me!! Tell the wives to go out and fiix it themselves then, and for all of the wives who do ROCK ON!!!
100 bucks, wow! i got mine with the car about 3 yrs. ago. great book!, one problem i have is the battery goes down in about 4 weeks, with no use.i haven't had the time to track down the cause of the drain,so i put one of those battery disconnect switches in. it's always something to fiddle with, but that keeps me sane,ha ha, thx,jim
