What are you running for an elec. fan. I can't see paying $300 for a spal. Are the flex a lite duals any good? I found a derale in the summit catalog but it is 28.50 x 13.82 for $200 Think it will fit? I'll be pushing about 400-420 hp when I get my motor back in. What are y'all running? All help is appreciated
We have used 90-96 dual GM Corvette fans in lots of C3 conversions with the serpentine belt system. They can be had a swap meets, although prices have gone up from 60-80 dollars three years ago to 150+ when you can find them. People found they are very useful, so they are not quite as available any more. Buy new motors to replace the old ones and as long as there are not cracks or breakage, you are good to go. They will flow more than enough air to support 400-500 HP. Plus, it's a current GM part number for the fans and motors.
BTW mine are the FLX-220 without the controls, I bought them when Summit was running one of their 10% off promotions so I paid about $180. I am using the through the radiator mounting set up but it also comes with brackets.
I have the dual Spal's and I am very happy with them, they are a little higher than the Flex-a-lites, but they move so much more air. Spals are rated for flow against a radiator, others are open air flow rated.
A good choice if you can find them are the electric setups off of late model F-Body V-8s. Several guys are running them with good results. I think mrvette (Gene) is running them, he lives in Florida so it gets plenty hot where he lives.
I have 96 Vette dual fans on mine and absolutely love them! They look like they belong there. Paid $100 for a set from a 34K mile car. They looked like new and cool like crazy. I do have TPI and seprentine belt setup. You have to modify the shroud-basically cut it in half, but it is not hard with a band saw.
