well...i feel bad for you guys up north...i really do...(im from Maine myself)
but here in Florida today it was beautiful and in the 70's...
a perfect day for a day trip in the Vette... :yesnod:
now...even tho i do drive my Vette to work and back every day, i hadnt yet taken it out and drove the pizz out of it...
so this morning we removed the t-tops and headed west to the Gulf of Mexico.
we put about 300 miles on the car, some city (around the beach) and some highway...
the first thing i can tell you is that my gas milage increased by 2 miles per gallon average...
dosnt seem like much till you realize that that is about 40 more miles per tankfull! i like that...
as far as driving the car with the new trany goes...WOW! simply awesome :)
especialy when you bring it up thru the gears out on the highway and when you get to 4th and still climbing...youv got one more gear to go to :D
it shifts like a dream...just like you would expect a 2004 to feel like...
even after all of my work i have to admit that it still had a VERY SMALL amount of vibration between 3500 and 4000 RPM...
that seemed to get less and less with every hundred miles...hhhmmm?
i guess some things are just "breaking in"
oh...one more thing...
i got waves from about 4 C5's :)
Re: five speed...my first REAL test drive... (SIGNGUY)
 I drove a 5speed in my S10 for years. Sometimes when driving my 79 I keep trying to shift into 5th. Glad everything in running well. Can you post a side view shot of your pipes. I want to see how the pipes look on a '79. thanks
Re: five speed...my first REAL test drive... (SIGNGUY)
Congrats on your successful conversion to 5 speed. Please post info about your 5 speed install - cost, source, problems, ratios, diff ratio, etc. Also, what are the clutch, flywheel, bell housing requirements?
Thanks
Re: five speed...my first REAL test drive... (flynhi)
 The adition of an O/D transmission is such a great upgrade :yesnod: . Now the more you drive your vette & save on gas, the quicker that new trans will be paid off :D
Re: five speed...my first REAL test drive... (78 Vette)
Congrats Gary ... glad to see it all worked out well.
Don't feel too bad for us guys up north ... the Pats are starting a Superbowl
dynasty. It's all good. Anyway, the balmy 30 degrees in southern NH was
fabulous. Spent Saturday skimobiling and Sunday morning working on the
vette frame resto with the garage door open.
Re: five speed...my first REAL test drive... (SIGNGUY)
Where did you get the five speed? I've been thinking about it but wasn't sure the modificationst that would go with it. Just point me in the "right" direction and I will go looking.
Re: five speed...my first REAL test drive... (SIGNGUY)
That's good to hear that it is working well. Was your 4spd a close ratio or wide? I'm curious to know how you like the gear spacing. I absolutely love the spacing on my close ratio 4spd and I think the 5spd ratios are a little wider. This is my biggest concern with going to a tremec type 5spd.
