Re: Should I put spinners on the wheels? (YZ450FRACER165)
I had spinners on my vette when I bought it.
IMHO they are a PITA since everytime you want to take off the tires, you have to mess with removing the spinners to get at the lug nuts. The spinners are also usually held on with allen set screws that are susceptible to stripping out. More PITA.
Got the regular center caps and couldnt be happier.
So whats the verdict? Spinner hubcaps or not! I am confused about ti as I think the car looks good. This is my first vette as my previous post indicates, so i am new. What do you think, how does the car look? It has 55,000 original miles, new interior, magna flow exhaust and custom brown, gold, platinum flake paint. The rims and the tires are brand new and not even driven on. This is the L-48 engine, which is plenty for me. Also, how much do you think the car might be worth, as blue book values dont go back that far. Just some curiosity. Thanks!!
Re: Should I put spinners on the wheels? (YZ450FRACER165)
I personally like spinners on the vintage style wheels, the Torq Thrust wheels, AR 200S, Cragar etc. The Champ 500 style wheel you have would fit into that catagory. All I would say is look for the more expensive style, where you mount the hub in the middle and then the 3 eared spinner "spins" onto it. It took me a while to find mine, but I'm happy I did, becuase it gives me the 60's Hot Rod look I was after.
One company to check out is carriage works, they make (probably) the nicest spinners on the market, but Weld make a similar spinner as well.
But look to spend around $300 for aluminum spin on type.
Re: Should I put spinners on the wheels? (MN-Brent)
I know I'm old school and I happily admit it - but I still like the clean look of the classic wheels like the Americans and what you already have on there.
To me the "sling blade" type spinners are what you usually see on a ricer with the big exhaust tip, and it says "look at my wheels cuz the rest of my car is a POS" and when I see them I'd laugh if they weren't so "over the top" disgustingly flashy.
You've got a great looking car, don't detract from it!
Its your vette if you like them put them on. Don't worry about what other people think.
Lots of people told me not to go with a stinger hood but I did it and love it.
Just my thoughts :seeya
Re: Should I put spinners on the wheels? (78 Vette)
I am not sure, I think I wil just go for it and see how it looks, if not I 'll resell them like you said. I know the Rims are made by Eagle, maybe I can get spinners from them or on ebay because I am not looking to spend a lot of money. I bought the car and now I am broke!!! LOL
Re: Should I put spinners on the wheels? (YZ450FRACER165)
Maybe it's my car, but I got the swept-wing spinners from Ecklers and they suck. The "chrome" finish started going bad in just a couple months but more importantly, it's a royal pain to get them to stay on the front. They are not the right size inside, and the hub pushes them off. I'm going back to stock caps when I've got the $.
Re: Should I put spinners on the wheels? (YZ450FRACER165)
I like spinners. But I have to echo the comments re quality and fit of some of the current products available. In other words there is a lot of off-shore junk being sold. I had a set on my 1979 alloy wheels for a day or so. They looked and fitted terrible. So buyer beware!
My current plan is to use the American Racing (AR) Carlisle spinners with Torq Thrust IIs. I believe that is what lvrpool32 is using. The wheels have been on order since November and I should have them soon. Here are the spinners that go with those wheels.
Re: Should I put spinners on the wheels? (markdtn)
Yah, I went over all the prices, and I have decided not to put them on, as most of them seem like junk. Besides, I think the stock caps look good on those rims. Thanks everyone from saving me from stupidity!!!
