As long as your distributor is in place, everything gets oiled. Most people will use an old distributor and a hand drill to prime the motor. I always just disconnected the coil wire and cranked the motor over. It's a little harder on the starter this way but it still does the same thing.
It takes a good 5 to 10 minutes to get oil all the way up to the rocker arms using an oil pump primer and 10,000 rpm high speed drill so it would take a lot longer to get whole system primed using the starter. I bought a primer like this to make sure oil got everywhere:
Whoaaaa... Bence... Isn't cranking the motor over with the starter to get it primed kind of defeating the purpose of priming? I thought an engine was primed by the oil pump to ensure oil was coating all the internals BEFORE they moved and contacted each other? Okay... I am confused... where are my books... he heee
I took an old distributor I had laying around, used a metal lathe to take off the gear, (you could use a bench grinder), cut off the weights, and use a good 1/2 inch drill to spin it. It was cheap, and easy to make.
