Default Rear speakers

I am going to buy speakers for my 'vette today. I have a pioneer cd deck, and will be purchasing Pioneer speakers. I am not interested in any other brand.

First of all, are the speakers in the factory enclosures 6X9?

Second, most of the coaxial speakers I have found have a tweeter that protrudes above the surround of the woofer cone. Will these speakers work in my car in the factory location? I don't want to build any enclosures since I want the interior to look factory.

Thanks for any help. I am probably going to go pick some new speakers up at an electronics store here in a couple hours.

PS... I know this is a dupe, but the search funciton did not turn up anything in current topics or archives.

Most current 6x9's are both too deep in the back, and have tweeters in the front that make it so they will not fit in the stock locations. Most people make their own boxes and enclose that back corner and give more room for a 6x9. http://members.***.net/~mfouchi/vett...s/boxplans.htm

I saw those enclosures, they seem very nice. However I am looking for something that will fit in the factory location.

The confusing part is that BestBuy lists 9 different 6X9 speakers that they are saying will fit without modification. I am a bet skeptical about that.

Crutchfield does not even show that there were rear speaker locations in a late shark.

If you are interested, I have a box made for 6X9's. It came with the Vette and fits perfectly in the back. Let me know if you ever make it down to OKC.

Will these enclosures fit in the back of a 71?

I purchased Pioneer 6X9 coaxials that were tagged "shallow basket". I think the are going to work, but will need a spacer between the factory grille and the speaker mount screws to keep the tweeter from deforming the grille.

I'll take pics when I'm done if it all works out.

See my other reply to your stereo post.

Unless your 6x9s are in a sealed or properly ported enclosure, you wont get much bass-even if you amp the poopiezky out of them.
