Some water pump questions
My water pump has a REALLY bad case of surface rust. Its hasnt really eatin through the metal but it ruins the whole look of the engine bay. Can i spray it with some engine enamel? also can i use POR-15 or will it come off due to the high heat?

Engine enamel will work and if POR-15 is burning off of it, you have bigger problems. BTW-POR-15 is overkill.

i heard somewhere that engine enamel doesnt stick to rust. Is this true? The POR-15 is a last resort.

Do you have access to a bench grinder with a wire wheel? You can also use a drill with a wire brush attachment.

i do have a bench grider, but i dont want to go through the trouble of trying to remove the surface rust. Especially in all the curves and corners.

maybe an aluminum pump is in order? I just put one one, looks great.
The previous pump just had orange engine paint on it. It stuck really well.

Re: Some water pump questions (killervette666)
You should really remove any surface rust before trying to coat it with anything, especially paint.
It is labor intensive but isn't everything on a vette!

Re: Some water pump questions (killervette666)
I just used Tremclad rust paint (gloss black) 6 months ago, still looks good.
Forget wire brush and sanding. Clean with degrease and shoot with paint....
