Default Preserving Rubber ?

Most of the rubber under my '74 was dry rotted and cracked. I replaced most of it with poly, but I still have some rubber left (body mount bushings etc.). Is there a way to keep the rubber I have left from going bad in the future.

Soak it in brake fluid, one of the best rubber preservatives/rejuvinators on the planet. Just don't get any on the paint.

... but the brake fluid will expand and soften the rubber. Not good for body mounts.

I would go with a silicone protector ... like Black Magic.

Mother's "Back to Black" did a nice job making some of my old stuff look great. There is also silicone spray and Armorall (I don't thing the amorall was as good as the mother's product).

I did a search for rubber preservative.

It looks like the best rubber preservative is for aircraft, It's Goodrich Agemaster Rubber Protective Agent. You would have to be Good and Rich to afford it as it is VERY expensive.
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/stylespi...4-451-127.html

There is another aircraft rubber preservative called Jet Stream Pbs Boot Sealant. It's not as expensive as the Agemaster, but still pricey.

More in line with my budget was 303 Aerospace Protectant.

Even better if you go to the 303 products page you can order a free sample, which I did. And if I get all of my friends and family to order a free sample I should have enough to last a while.

Silicone and rubber, a match made in heaven. A small tub of plumber's silicone from any hardware store will last years.
