I am getting ready to detail my engine, I want to do a few modifcations and would apprecieate any advice this collective set of great minds might have. The only requirements would be
1. stay with stock heads
2. must appear stock from the out side
Also I am thinking of using underpulleys and was hoping that someone might have used them in the past.
well you can add a mild cam,or maybe check into a higher ratio set of rockers, a aftermarket intake can be painted to look stock, ign. up-grade
can be hiden, ex. system is different how stock do you want it ?
I would like it to look almost totaly stock, I have already redone the exuast, I was thining along the same line with you i.e. intake, ing system, cam, underpully, I have a low flow cat convertier already. I would think that sould add at least 100 hp all added together....
you mean high flow cat. (more performace) yes if your looking or stock but
more HP your on track i'd stay with a torque buildind cam, and if a auto trans
a shft kit,
The '81 uses a computer to set ignition advance, carb idle mixture, and 3rd gear auto tranny lockup. If you live somewhere with emissions inspections, consider leaving all of this stock. If not, consider a plan to eliminate all this stuff simultaneously.
Stay away from underdrive pullies (unless you have a twin-turbo setup or something). Those are for rice boxes.
Cam, lifters, and rockers are an excellent place to start. Even if you do have emissions testing in your area. A nice set of heads would be a good investment. As long as you're using stock manifolds and valve covers, it will not eliminate your goal of looking "stock."
I don't know what you need to know on the under-drive pulley setup.
I just put them on a couple weeks ago. I got them from Corvette Central. They had the best price I could find.
It was the March under-drive system with the short water pump, 3 groove crank and 2 groove water pump.
Cost was $229.65 + $17.95 S&H = $247.60
pn # 303267
That was for a/c and no smog pump
Everyone else was about $279.95 + S&H
parts included
crank
water pump
alternator
These are polished aluminum with clear powder coat.
I don't know if that's what you needed to know or not, any other questions let me know
