Re: 69 L88, 72 ZR1 at Barret Jackson (88'Cubka)
I saw all these cars on Thursday. The L88 is awesome and it will fetch some big $$$. I believe they are predicting it will go for over 100k.
However, if you desire other vettes with a 427 in it, there were a bunch of them in pristine condition.
I don't know if saw it or not but the highest selling car on Friday was a 1967, 427/435 roadster for 132k.
They also have a fine collection of Callaway's up for bid. Man, if money weren't an issue......

Money is always an issue, but I do have an idea of the value of these cars.
I was curious if anyone knew if they have their orginal engines or restoration
engines.

Mitch,
On the 69 L88, the paint is 'older', the documentation is a tank sticker and the the engine pad is, well, questionable. There a few other things about it that we can discuss if you want more info. Send me a email.

Mark Donnally

If you are selling a $100k + car, why can't you get the name of the paint color right?? The 69, hopefully, is lemans blue, not marina blue.
I noticed on TV this year they announced that Barret Jackson and SpeedTV make no representations about the car, that all the info is provided by the seller, and it is basically "buyer beware." In previous years they mentioned how BJ carefully reviewed the cars and accompanying documentation which probably gave some people the (false) impression that all the cars were guaranteed "real" :)
Mitch, is it possible to bid on these cars this late over the phone? They must have some kind of precertify process, no? MJ

I have pre-registered.
My first choice is the 67 L89 which I have done my homework on. I also
gave these two lots, just in case.

To me, the scary thing about bidding at BJ would be going up against "stupid money" At some auctions you need to worry about dishonest, shill bidding to run the price up, but at BJ it could be a perfectly honest but very ignorant bidder that bids the price up well beyond any reasonable value. When you get 2 of these types bidding against each other (being egged on by that cute lady hustler) the results can be nutso!! I would certainly keep an eye on the boys from Proteam and note where they drop out. Re: 69 L88, 72 ZR1 at Barret Jackson (Corey 68)
thanks for the post and links, I will eagerly await the value the ZR-1 goes for as I have a ZR-1 vert. Mine is in need of a body off after a few years of racing in the 70's and early 80's. I will be pulling the engine in a couple of years and storing it and dropping a Z06 engine in it. I have had a classic car consignemt place contact me (spring) and ask for bock #'s etc. but I didn't buy this as an investment - I drive it and have already promised it to my son when he is old enough to take responsibility for it, at least 25 yrs. Given he will turn 16 in March I have a few years of long cruises left in her. In all honesty I would look to buy a bb or sb chrome bumper vert off a forum member instead of looking at these 2. You can drive it and not be worried about anything like paint chips etc. One of the main reasons I have not done the body off yet is that I am worried about theft/vandalism etc. I live NW of Toronto and my wife & I regularly take to the back (mostly dirt) roads through the valleys and hills without thinking twice, then again I only paid around $15 cdn in Dec of 98.

That is why I am doing telephone bidding from home. This way the only woman on my arm will be my wife telling me to hang up the phone.

I have seen the blue ZR1 on here before. Someone posted a link to it at a dealership. They were asking $105K for it. The pics were very nice.

Re: 69 L88, 72 ZR1 at Barret Jackson (427 Mitch)
$132K for a L71 '67 C2 just seems ludicrous to me...although my wife saw this go across the auction block and said "we're keeping the '69!!!"
Somehow $6,000 for a '69 Convertible that was originally a 427/435hp car seems a much better bargain!
The funny thing is that I've had opportunities to buy perfect Ferrari 365GTs for under $30K. They are really not desirable cars among sports car enthusiasts (mostly because they're heavy, not particularly fast and don't handle that well)

Anybody know what the ZR-1 went for - I thought that $65 -$80 would be a fair price, well as fair as it goes at B-J. I should get a copy of the transaction and give it to my ins. agent and appraisor and watch them have a good laugh.
