Default Stud Replacement on front brake hub

My front passenger side wheel studs are way too short, have been since I've owned the car. Since I'm replacing the rotors I want to put the right length studs on. What is the proper stud to get?

I'm a bit confused how someone would be stupid enough to put them on. With the lug nut torqued properly, the nut is at best 1/2 turn onto the stud. It holds, but the stud does not protrude through the nut. I have the original rotors, at least I think I do, they are riveted onto the hub. I suppose someone could have taken the hub and rotor off of the spindle as a unit and replaced them that way. It just makes no sense.

Onto my question, I have a decent Wilton bench vise. Could I press the stud out using some sockets or do I really need a bona-fide press. If it's possible to do it myself, I will, but if not, I can just get a shop to do it.

Thanks

Maybe it isn't good for the bearings but I replace all studs in all wheels with longer heavier studs years ago. For the front a good rap with a hammer pops the old studs out. I then just used 2 nuts welded to getter to pull the studs into place. Once the wheels were installed I check them regularly with a torque wrench until I was convinced they would not move. The bearings seemed to have survived fine since they are still in the car.

I'll give it a shot. Do you happen to know what the OEM stud length is?

BTW, why would longer studs be bad for the bearings? It seems like no matter what the stud length, the leverage of the tire would remain the same? I can understand if a spacer is installed, but not if the stud was just longer.

I think that Norval was refering to whacking the stud with a hammer being hard on the wheel bearing. :smash:
