Default 10 GALLON FUEL TANK…HELP!

I ran my ‘81 out of gas several months ago, and no matter how much I seemed to put in, it wouldn’t start. A resto shop near the stranding claimed to fix it, but after that point, the car only utilized around ten gallons before “running out” again. My local mechanic, competent, but no Corvette specialist, discovered a bent fuel pickup tube. I promptly ran out of gas again, this time after using around half the tank’s contents. The mechanic thinks the car may have the wrong fuel sender. Has anyone had similar problems and, if so, what was the solution? FYI, looking back over the six years before the first stranding, I don’t think I ever used more than 18 of the 23.7 gallon capacity.

The later model C-3 gastanks had liners in them. Over a the years those liners start collapsing into the tank limiting the amount of gas in the tank. Unfortunately I don't know that anyone is selling replacement tanks for your 81. I think Quanta Products makes replacements for years up to 77. Some people have removed the liner from their tanks and replaced the pickup tubes and float mechanism.
Good Luck!
