Default Dual exhaust for '79

Has anyone bought from this guy/site before,,, http://www.allencorvetteexhaustsystems.com/
There's a couple systems on Ebay right now that sound like a sweet deal. I was thinking about the Stage II system or maybe just the duals w/ glasspacks. I have a pretty warmed up crate 350 4spd w/ 286 Magnum cam, 1.6 roller rockers, screw-in studs w/girdles, ported/polished heads w/triple cut on exhaust valves, double roller chain, Flowtech (by Holley) long tube headers, 750 doub pump Edelbrock w/ Performer intake & probably a couple more things I can't think of at the moment. Thanx for your help guys.

Instead of buying some system. I just drove my 79 down to local muffler shop and had a custom set installed. I also felt like the pipes were way to close to the tranny because of the stock cross member twin holes. I modified the tranny cross member to allow for twin pipes off the header collectors going straight back. I have a three inch system with three inch in and out stainless packed mufflers and 3.5 inch chrome tips.

I just posted a picture the other day.

I have a pretty good yet inexpensive exhaust system with 1-5/8" hooker competition headers, 2.5" pipes to flowmaster 40 2 chamber exhaust and it was pretty inexpensive for a custom exhaust setup. Personally I love the sound of it, it sounds mean. I don't really see a purpose in spending tons of money on an exhaust setup unless you're just having a show car. Of course that's just my opinion and many people will disagree with me. Good luck to you.

Had a muffler shop custom bend my pipes. That was 20 years ago. still thinking about what to do when the system finially rusts out. I have hooker headers and still using the original factory mufflers.

I bought a system from Allen's about 18 months ago. Went on my 77 just fine and I am satified with the sound and performance. They make the systems that are sold by many of the Corvette Vendors. Nice people to deal with and knowledgeable.

I just bought a dual system from Allens for my 75. I haven't installed it yet, but before I bought it I put a post on here. Several forum members highly recommened Allens.

Bill, Allen's sells a great system whether or not you go with the chambered or the stage 2, I have a set of stage 2 on my 75 and they are really sweet.
The fit is perfect and the quality can not be beat. The sets that are on Ebay are Allen's. I live pretty close to Allen's and his service is great also, I have bought some parts from him.

Good luck

Thanx for all your help guys. "Allen" Emailed me & told me that they are the manufacturers of the pipes that MidAmerica & others sell. A little cheaper on Ebay but he won't take Paypal. :cry
Phil Zell >>> How are the Stage II's compared to the undercar chambered,,, louder ?,, deeper growl?,, obnoxious? Thanx
Bill

I've also been contemplating the chambered exhaust system fo my '79. I've been seeing some negative comments however on performance but certainly they are as good or better than the "cat" system with monza mufflers I have now wouldn't you think?

When I switched my exhaust system, there was definitely a significant performance increase. I wouldn't trade my chambered exhaust for the world.

:iagree: I went with Mid America's chambered dual exhaust on my 79. Installation was a snap. It's loud up to about 45MPH or when floored; otherwise sweet !

The stage 2 system has a nice mellow sound somewhat quieter than the chambered, but when you drop the hammer on her you can hear what she has.
The idle is awesome.
I like mine

Ordered the Stage II for anyone interested, thanx to all that helped. It'll be a month before I get it on. Then comes the insurance to put it on the road, it's been idle since last April.

I need some information on how to install a dual exhaust system on my 79 vette. My crossmember doesn't have cutouts to run the pipes through. If I run them under the crossmember the left pipe will be only 3"-4" off the ground. Does anyone have any ideas or know where to look for a solution. I still have the org. system on it and everything except the front y-pipe is bad. Thanks.
