Am I wrong to hate my steering wheel?
I know I know. It's original and that's what was cool back in '73. I just can't get over how much it makes me feel like I'm driving a semi!
How many feel the same way I do? I want to keep the car original, but It just takes up soooo much room in the cockpit and I'm thinking of going with something aftermarket.

I replaced mine with a 79 steering wheel 20 years ago. I need to find the original though, those things are going for 200 bucks.

Maybe it's just a combination of the fact that it's thinner and the A-pillar and door are so much closer than I'm used to which makes it feel bigger.
I just measure the steering wheel in both my Truck and my C4 (which I love) and they're all the same size.
The Lecara one which looks thicker and is an inch less in diameter looks like more what I"m used to.

I just measure the steering wheel in both my Truck and my C4 (which I love) and they're all the same size.
The Lecara one which looks thicker and is an inch less in diameter looks like more what I"m used to.

Could be worse. I have a not tilt/tele steering column, so i have the cheap formed vinyl vega wheel.

personal opinion, I like the 69-75 wheels,hate the 76 and don't care too much for the 77-82 leather wrapped ones either. Same goes for the aftermarket wheels.

Ive got that steering wheel. I like it alot. Nice leather quality.
You should also check out the Grant 791 model. It is the same as the Lecarra except it has twin spokes in place of the single spokes on the Lecarra. Looks much nicer IMHO.
I was trying to buy the Grant but was delivered the Lecarra from Ecklers during my interior resto. Either one works for me I suppose.

Your vette, do what you like, just keep those original parts tucked away for safe keeping.

My '76 has the infamous Vega steering wheel, and it is just the right size and comfortable. I actually think GM put Vette steering wheels on Vegas that year :lol:

I swapped mine for a Cutlass/442 wheel that was a bolt-on swap and much thicker to grab. Looks similar, but has 4 spokes instead of 3.

I got the 4 spoke version and like the looks and the extra inch it provides off leg room it provides since I do not have tilt/tele.

And this is what I think too....
Now there is no worse wheel than this, but I live with it. It's what the general did. I'm not oppesed to aftermarket wheels. Make that CORVETTE aftermarket wheels. This toyota and oldsmobile talk is something else.
