I'm in the market for a 4" cowl hood to cover my new motor project. I'd like to see pics of what everybody has, where they got it, what they paid, and how well it fit.
Thanks in advance,
Jay

Re: Lets See Some Cowl Hoods (TeenagerWith74Vette)
These are a couple of pics of my 69 with a (I think) 3 1/2" cowl. I bought it from Vanacors and the fit was horrible. I ended up building a complete new hood underpinnings and using only the skin from the Vanacors hood.
I would not recomend a hood from Vanacors. My friend also bought a L-88 style hood from them and it was basically useless.
I can't say if all their products are garbage or not, but they are 0 for 2 with me.

Eric.
That's the same hood I have, but mine was made by Eckler's.

Jay I purchased my L88 hood from Vanacor, and very satisfied w/ the fit and finish. The hood cost me $425. They offer about 10 differnt hoods to choose from and is only about a 2hour drive from you.
Corey, I was interested in a stinger hood they advertise but they had no photos of the hood. Looks like the L88 hood you bought from them is good, by chance did you see the stinger hood I mentioned. It's suppose to be about 1 3/4" taller than the stock hood and would look great......

Here are a couple of pics of the hood that i am making. I also looked at after market hoods but didnt like the way they fit. I bought a used OEM hood for $100.00 and purchased a Harwood hood scoop from sumitt. This scoop is the Mini Areo and is about 7.5 inches tall.
That scoop looks pretty good, but I want something not so obvious. Street racing is a big deal around here, and that thing looks WAY too fast.
I've thought about just raising my hood, but I've never dealt with fiberglass before. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. That's ok, because I have about a month before I buy a hood.
The new motor should go in the car in the next couple of weeks, and building headers will be the first thing on the list.
I'm really starting to like those L-88 style hoods with the 5in cowl. I saw a company on ebay that sells those hoods, and I'm thinking about getting one from them.

I can't say that I have seen their Stinger hood. :nonod: But if it is the same quality as the L88 I have (I see no reason why it wouldn't) then I think you will be pleased.

I might just get the 4 5/8" hood from Ecklers.
How can you tell the height on the Eckler hoods? Is there a description somewhere? All I can see is the part number, price and maybe a picture of their items.

This is my hay hauler
Vancor 5 vent twin turbo hood. Good fit and it saves weight over a stock hood. I seen people who screen the twin air inlets and make them work the rear vents are like a chimney and you can see the heat waves when your stopped. I could also see stainless flex fan going around back when I had one through the big back opening. Never a problem just bolted it on and painted the whole car.
You can see the roll cage through the darked out windows - If you click on the picture to super size it
