Break calipers, another stupid question.
My bleeders are frozen, I have soaked them in penatrating oil for the last week. They are still frozen. Is there a kit I could get to drill and tap them with? Or would it be easier to hone the centers out until I can get a small punch in there and bend the bleeder thread loose from the caliper thread?

I replaced mine with Speed-bleeders last week. At least 3 of them rounded off and I had to get a vice-grip on them, which worked out...except for one, which snapped off. Now I have a bit of a problem, but I may be able to get it out with a screw extractor. Other than my experience, I dunno what to tell you. Just be careful with things that have a tendancy to turn a problem into a bigger one! And convert to Speed-Bleeders if you weren't already going to! They are great.

Try putting a vice grip on it [make it very tight] tighten it a little first then try backing it out. If that does't work cut off the top of the bleeder with a cut off wheel, drill a small hole and use an easy out. :seeya

Thanks guys:) Tell you what it was a PITA to get the calipers off.
I had to battle with 3 big spiders, I hate spiders.
I'll try the vice grips, I want to drive this thing this summer.
Re: Break calipers, another stupid question. (wackedvette)
Spiders are only good for -> :smash:
I forgot to mention, the one I broke off broke because I was using vicegrips, be careful not to crush them, they are hollow as I discovered. (Also means you don't have to drill for an easyout, there's a hole almost as big as the thread-size.)
Re: Break calipers, another stupid question. (wackedvette)
If the vice grips or easy out doesn't work, drill through the bleeder leaving only the threads left. The remaining metal should be thin enough to tap it out with a hammer and awl.

I just had the same problem, keep heating with the torch, thats the only way I found to get them out, make sure its red hot!!! all the way through before you try to turn them other wise you will snap off the tops.
Re: Break calipers, another stupid question. (71vert)
Are you talking about heating the bleeders?? Heating causes expansion you know... that might break the rust seal somehow, but even then you should wait until it's cool. Heating the calliper might be a little difficult, but that's what would work.

HEAT EM UP! if you don't have an Oxy/Acetelyne unit, buy a Mapp gas plumber's torch at ACE Hardware and use it. When hot you can "shock" them with liquid wrench or other liquid lube (careful about spray can type, use oil can type, otherwise you are on your own!) This works 99/100 times, otherwise you should probably just buy reproducton caliper as machine shop will want over $25 to EDM out broken bleeder screw (at least in my area of the US.)
