While removing the four bolts attaching the spring to the diff, one of the forward bolts snapped.
I have drill the bolt enough to get an extractor in an it has grabbed the bolt tight. I've put all the muscle I dare to the point where I'm afraid to snap the extractor.
So the question.... do you think the diff cover will absorb enough heat (on the car) to loosen the bolt or am I in danger of ruining attached components.
Any other ideas to get this thing out?
Thanks in advance for you advice.

I would try the old propane torch heating and wax trick but I would definitely take it easy on how much heat you put on it. Just heat cycle it a couple of times. Hopefully it will come out. Good luck.
I would give up on the "do it on the car" idea. Time to drop the sucker and get serious. :smash:
:iagree: Dropping the cross member is not a huge deal. Your halfway there already and you can do a lot of "while your in there's" at the same time.
Suck out as much of the gear lube as you can and hit it hard with the oxy/acetylene gas wrench. It will come out. Mapp gas or propane might be enough to do the job but it will probably take 15 minutes of fuel.
Edit: be sure to heat the cast, not the broken bolt. Don't leave the extractor in while you are heating it.
:iagree: with the Big Fish. Put some serious heat on that sucker. When it cools down past flaming temperature, squirt a little WD on it while its still hot. As it cools, the WD will be sucked into and around the bolt. If you don't have the "chop daddy" oxy/acetylene torch, might try propane. However, with propane, it may take you several attempts...just keep heating, squirting WD, heating, squirting WD. Eventually, IT WILL COME LOOSE. The expansion and contraction due to heating and cooling down is what it's all about. Good luck &
