I have a 75 vert, Ive removed the pump, vacume on the thermestat housing and will remove the Passenger side acuator for the exhaust (valve) and pipe to the exhaust. Ive installed hooker side pipes and will have the muffler shop connect the exhaust manifolds to the side pipes, Ive caped the vacuem on the carb. what else do I need to do??? I think Ive covered all that there is but want advise on the smog stuff?. ... this should be a free flowing exhaust from the exhaust manifolds to the hooker side pipes after im done? do I need to check carb for dile mixture?, or timing?. tks for help... :seeya

Re: Removing smog stuff, (Chuck-75)
 First, I would box all those parts up and place them in storage. I don't trust CA smog laws from one year to next. I plan to keep all my smog parts for as long as I own car.
How about the AIR tubes inside the exh manifolds? They would add restriction if left in place. Also the P-side exh has an heat riser that is restrictive too - this maybe the exh valve your talking about. Next would be the EGR valve on the intake manifold - need a block-off plate ane gasket when removing this. Try Edlebrock, Holley or even Chevy for this plate. My '74 had a throttle operated valve for the cowl induction to limit use to full throttle - in CA you may want this off for full time cold air use. You can adjust idle mixture screws at the front of the Q-jet but may need to remove emmissions caps off the screws. Too much to write here for tuning/adustments (get the books out). There is a ignition timing control that limits advance unless in top gear and full throttle (for passing). Be carefull here and read up to study what tunings needed before eleminating this.
Good luck Chuck. :D
:seeya Tks cardo, Ive done all that youve suggested except for the egr blockoff plate. the car does seem to run faster, (no tire spin though) but that will be down the road after an engine swap....Thanks again, :steering:
