NOISE FROM OIL PAN

When the vette is ldling there is a rapping sound coming from the front of the oil pan. I placed a stethoscope at the bottom of the oil pan with the engine running. The sound occurs about every 5-6 seconds. It sounds like the counterweight is hitting the slanted portion of the oil pan. If i'm wrong, could it be that a main bearing has spun?

i had a similar noise coming from oil pan in my old gmc safari and when i dropped the pan and pulled off a few bearing caps the babbit was gone from the bearings giving it too much clearence and the noise was the crank wobbling-----------

check the timing chain cover the same way you checked the oil pan it might be a stretched timing chain hitting the cover. I have seen this happen Just a thought.
