If you lay wax/ Mother's aluminum polish down (whatever your using) allow it to sit in the garage for at least 24 hours the shine is four times greater as is the lasting protection (versous removing it in a few minutes). It seems when I quickly remove the wax most of the wax comes off onto the towel while after 24 hours very little residue comes off and the shine is deeper. With Mothers the beauty rings/ caps/ bumpers I have a higher luster and do not need re-polishing for a longer period of time. Hope this helps someone.

Makes sense.
If you look at Griot's Garage "Detailer's Handbook" they describe one method of wax application that instructs to lay down a coat of wax, then let it sit for some time, then apply another coat directly over the first coat. After the second coat has time to set, you remove the wax, and the wax becomes rock-hard and stays longer.
This is actually what I do on my cars, because I can then wax less frequently.
By the way Cali, I love the new picture in the Autocross! Very cool!

I thought I read somewhere that was bad, I don't remember why though. Google here I come.
Another trick is after you're done buffing, spritz a little water on the car and buff again. The shine is much deeper. (That's off the back of my Zymöl bottle)

That's called "spit-shining." Seriously. The same technique works great for shoes.
Spit and shine brings back memories. My Father was Air Force back in the days when there were weekly inspections and parades. Anyone remember parade squares? In any case dress code and attention to detail was pretty strict. He would spend hours getting ready and spitting on his boots between layers of polish. He swore it worked!
Paul we still do it to date. These brown shoes seen below in my daily wear uniform require constant buffing however I have a small sprits water bottle that I squirt water on the shoes as I apply the shoes brush
As for formal wear, Dress blues, choker whites etc. etc. I have purchased black/ white Corofram (spel?) shoes which have a plastic over liner which just needs some Meguiars wax and they look like your staring at glass. God I love those maintenance free items.

Cali, you being a chief might know this.. Brasso will take any scuffs out of those new shiny black shoes.... That is if the scuff aren't to deep.. Thanks for the tip on the aluminum polish I have to get out there and do my TTII's they are getting a little dull.. Dave..

Personally I have not used Brasso but sure it would work but I have actually used the rubbing compound on a smear when some idiot walked on my shoe and it took it out, especially with a wax follow-up.
