Can someone measure their Alternator pulley for me. The only size belt that wil fit over the alt. is 52.5" The book calls for 51.5" belt. It is the factory alternator, but I did have it rebuilt. I doubt he put a bigger pulley on, it looks the same size. The alt. hits the valve cover so it's hard to get the belt over it
I meant that when I go to put on the new belt, the alt. hits the valve cover to give it slack. The only belt that goes over the alt. is a 52.5" (Gates 7525). And the adjustment is at the end of the arm. It should be like you say in the middle of the arm. I can't get a shorter belt to fit over the alt...
Thanks Blade, I joined the other forum and replyed their. My car is all stock...I don't understand the brackets being wrong, unless the smaller belts didn't fit from the factory? If I don't resolve it now, I'll check when the car shows start...Not for awhile up here in the NE
I should know if the bracket is the problem or not shortly. Mine is exactly like you describe; hard to get on, and then I have to set at max adjustment. I think I have the wrong alternator arm. If this is the case, the arm is fairly cheap, less than $15. Plus, it would still be considered factory since there was more than one design, depending on the amperage output of the alternator.
Ok, I installed the other type alternator arm, and after I made a spacer to go with it, I'm happy to say that my problem is fixed
I have fought this problem since I bought the car from Bubba. With the same belt, I was able to adjust the belt as tight as a banjo string  and still had more adjustment. I'll try to post pics in the next day or so. Hope this will solve your problem too
