Re: Has anyone seen a vin # like this? (Twin_Turbo)
your VIN checks out correctly in carfax so the check digit is correct. (7 records found)
What's the problem with the VIN? The 17 digit vin is built up like this:
1 = USA
G = General Motors
1 = Chevrolet division
A = restraint system (non passive seat belts)
Y = Corvette
8 = body style (coupe, 0 for Collector edition)
7 = body style (with above one makes 87 = coupe, 08 for a Collector = hatchback)
8 = Engine : Twin TBI 5,7L OHV L83
7 = check digit
C = year (C = 82 D= 83 - non existent, E = 84...and so on)
5 = assembly plant
1= a filler because prod # starts at 100001
21244 = prod number
Worse yet, deawoos will be badged chevrolet in Europe shortly, there's not one appealing car in the entire deawoo line up. What was GM thinking??? I tell you, a reorganization is needed in the top ranks at GM
Re: Has anyone seen a vin # like this? (Twin_Turbo)
Thank you for all your help. I was more used to pre 80 vin # and never saw one like that. This is the car my friend bought, that I asked the cross fire ?s on. Still not running. Will be soon The weather has been so bad to do anything. What does "7 records found" mean and how can I see the records? :cheers:
there are 7 records in the carfax database, they may be nothing or they maybe some interesting info. You need to subscribe to look at the details or ask someone that has a subscription (for a few days). Min returned 2 non meaning records whereas that does not represent what actually happened to the car (wrecked, stolen, chop shop,....)
